After Party in the Park is over you don’t have to go home . Head downtown Roanoke and take advantage of wonderful food specials at these participating restaurants each week. Don’t forget these specials are available after Downtown Live too! The specials for this week are:
- 202 Marketplace is offering half off all appetizers
- Awful Arthurs is serving up buy one pound of peel and eat shrimp, get one free! All for just $8.99!
- Blues BBQ enjoy at taste of the south with pit ham, hand cut boardwalk fries and a drink for only $8.99!
- Corned Beef & Co. Take advantage of two pounds of boneless wings for the price of one or enjoy $7 pepperoni or cheese pizza.
- Martins’s Downtown has 2 Can Dine for $19.99: 2 Entrees from Martin’s Pasta Bar with a Salad and a Bottle of Wine for $12.99 from 4pm – 11pm.
- The Quarter is offering a special that includes the soup of the day, Cream of mushroom and wild rice, seared tuna with cucumber and ginger salad with house made Teriyaki sauce with Wasabi and pickled ginger. Desert? Indulge in homemade chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake with an Oreo crust!
SunTrust Big Lick Blues Festival rocked through another year!

Gorgeous weather, rockin’ blues and smokin’ ribs created a perfect combination for an absolutely fabulous event– and that it was! SunTrust Big Lick Blues Festival just celebrated it’s 4th year this past Saturday in Elmwood Park, downtown Roanoke, Virginia. Each rib vendor went through about 50lbs. of smoked ribs each, that’s over 200lbs for the day! It was a tough competition, but in the end Blue 5 swept the categories taking first place in sauced, dry and People’s Choice! 2nd place US Foodservice Rib Cook-off both dry and sauced category was Martin’s Downtown Bar & Grill. Runner up for the People’s Choice Award was a tie between Henry’s Memphis BBQ and Blues BBQ Co. Congrats to all of our rib vendors who continue to show up each year with their BEST ribs – because at Big Lick Blues we sure do love some ribs ya’ll!
The ribs weren’t the only thing that was smokin’- this year’s music line-up made everyone a Blues fan! Clarence “The Bluesman” Turner, Teresa James and The Rhythm Tramps, John Lee Hooker, Jr. and Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-a-Whirl Band with a very special guest Lou Ann Barton all rocked the stage at Elmwood Park. There wasn’t a inch of green grass in sight! By 3:00pm we had over 1,000 in the park!

Ribs and other good eats at SunTrust Big Lick Blues Festival- Oct. 2

Come hungry to the 4th Annual SunTrust Big Lick Blues Festival on October 2 in Elmwood Park. There will be five rib and BBQ vendors battling to take the title of “Best Rack in town!” Don’t worry, if you don’t want BBQ that day, there will be plenty of other options. Shrimp and grits, hot dogs, hamburgers, gyros and popcorn are just some of the other great food items that will be available. You definitely won’t leave the park with an empty stomach! Fantastic food and Grammy winning Blues performers… couldn’t be a more perfect combination!
